What is Targetted Nerve Blocks ?

Targeted nerve blocks, also known as nerve block injections or simply nerve blocks, are medical procedures used to manage and alleviate pain by delivering medication directly to specific nerves or nerve clusters that are responsible for transmitting pain signals. The primary purpose of a nerve block is to interrupt or block the pain signals traveling along the affected nerves, providing temporary or, in some cases, longer-term pain relief. Before performing a nerve block, a healthcare provider evaluates the patient’s condition to identify the source of the pain and determine the most appropriate treatment. This evaluation often includes a physical examination and may involve imaging studies (such as MRI or ultrasound) to pinpoint the precise location of the problematic nerves.

Indications

  • Pain from labor
  • Pain because of surgery like joint replacement
  • Cancer-related pain
  • Migraine
  • Back pain or sciatica

  • Pain due to spasms in blood vessel
  • Neck pain due to herniated disks
