What is Advanced Laser Physiotherapy

Advanced laser physiotherapy, often referred to as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or cold laser therapy, is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses low-intensity laser light to promote healing, reduce pain, and improve tissue repair in various musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions. This therapy involves the application of low-level laser or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to specific areas of the body, typically at or near the site of injury or discomfort. The specific wavelength and energy of the laser light used in advanced laser physiotherapy are believed to have therapeutic effects on cells and tissues. A specialized device, such as a handheld laser or LED unit, is used to apply low-level laser or LED light to the specific area of the body requiring treatment. The light is typically applied directly to the skin or through clothing, depending on the type of device used.

Indications

  • Acute Pain
  • Edema
  • Burns
  • Fractures
  • Fungal Infections
  • Otitis
  • Skin Grafts
  • Snake Bites

Contra Indications

Injections are generally avoided in patients who have a systemic illness or skin infection over the puncture site, bleeding problems or coagulopathy, or an allergy to local anaesthetics or any of the drugs that will be administered.

Complications

Advanced Laser therapy has some risks. The risks for skin therapy include:

  • bleeding
  • infection
  • pain
  • scarring
  • changes in skin color

Post procedure

If a tumor is being treated, an endoscope (a thin, lighted, flexible tube) may be used to direct the laser and view tissues inside the body. The endoscope is inserted through an opening in the body, such as the mouth. Then, the surgeon aims the laser and shrinks or destroys the tumor.

In cosmetic procedures, lasers are usually applied directly to the skin.
